Scenic Autumn Grad Photos in Boone, NC - shot on film ✨
October, 2023
I have the fondest memories of this gorgeous October day driving around the Blue Ridge Parkway with sweet Vanessa. Vanessa knew she wanted her grad photos to capture the stunning beauty of the Appalachian Mountains in the fall, a fitting tribute to her college experience at Appalachian State University, nestled in the lovely mountain town of Boone, North Carolina. We picked a Saturday afternoon in October for me to drive up and meet her at her house near campus. Film rolls in hand, we started our photoshoot. We began in and around her adorable old house, which was just as much of a character in her college career as anyone else. Fun fact about me: I LOVE taking photos inside a college home, especially when we shoot on film. The natural light coming in through the windows, the never-ending possibility for interesting compositions in doorframes, porches, bedrooms, you name it!
After that, I got in the backseat with Vanessa and her friend, and we started our journey, traveling around Boone and the nearby towns. Our first stop was a pumpkin patch that they had fond undergrad memories of finding. It doesn’t get much better than October photos at a pumpkin patch selling hot apple cider! Next to the patch was a pick-your-own flower field, where we stopped to grab some pics.
Cider in hand, we headed back to campus to get some classic photos at the ASU entrance sign. Once finished, we ended our photo session at the Daniel Boone Gardens for portraits with fall foliage.
I have such an affinity for photos around Boone. My brother graduated from App State several years ago, and I learned the town and surrounding areas well on my many trips up to visit him. We spent so many days driving around the parkway, finding great spots for the sunset, eating at Come Back Shack, and exploring campus. Every time I’m back in Boone I’m reminded of those trips and of finding solace in the mountains <3
