Brand Photos for CatKatyaTongue Sustainable Fashion

In the early Spring of 2024, I worked with sewist and textile artist Katya Yegorov-Crate for their sustainable clothing and art business, Cat Katya Tongue?

We had several planning calls prior to the photo session. It was important for me to understand Katya’s process and the origin story of their business before trying to document it. After considering the places and locations that were a vital part of Katya’s business and life story, we settled on going to the small village of Bynum, NC, near Pittsboro. Here is where Katya’s mom lives and where Katya has spent a ton of crafting time.

Katya is a deeply intentional and imaginative designer, and every piece they create is entirely unique. They work exclusively with secondhand, vintage, recycled, and salvaged materials, so capturing these garments in locations around Bynum that reflect back the ideas of creative, vintage, timeless, and fun qualities was a natural decision.
